"HELP ME SHAPE THE FUTURE OF THE CHILDREN OF CLAY COUNTY BY VOTING FOR ME FOR SCHOOL BOARD DISTRICT ONE."
EDUCATION
This is why I'm running for Clay County School Board, so the children of Clay County will excel and become our brightest of futures. We need to move forward with new ideas coming from the very people who make decisions that will impact all students. All of us working together can make that happen.
CRITICAL RACE THEORY
This is a topic that has gotten a lot of attention nation wide. This isn't being taught in our schools right now and if I'm elected to this position, I will make sure it never happens. That goes for the 1619 project also. Don't get me wrong. Slavery was a very bad thing in our past but it's not what makes us American. We shouldn't be teaching our children to hate each other simply because of skin color. We will never stop racism if we keep using it against each other.
MASK MANDATES
We are constantly getting conflicting information from the Government and agencies like the CDC. When this pandemic started and was at its peak, everyone and every place was being shut down. People losing their jobs or had to work remotely. This also happened with our children. They weren't allowed to go to school but instead had to go to classes online. The teachers and parents both did a great job of helping all the kids while they struggled to learn in this capacity but they needed to get back to the classroom. Some hard decisions had to be made on this topic and most of them weren't popular once they were made. I think there are going to be long term effects to our kids having to be away from school. Learning deficiencies and social skills are just a couple. Mental health issues are already becoming problems, especially with teenage girls, as suicide attempts and ER visits have increased 51% since 2019 (USA Today, June 11, 2021). With all that being said, I believe that the parents should have the right to decide if they want their children to wear a mask or not. But they should take into consideration the teachers who are immune deficient. These unfortunate teachers are the one's that are at the most dangerous risk. It's not fair to them that they can't fight the disease like everyone else. We need to take care of them too. Once again, tough decisions have to be made.
VACCINES
Vaccines are also a tough topic to talk about. I feel that this decision is one that should only be made by the parents. If they want their children vaccinated then so be it. It shouldn't be mandated by the School Board. This is solely a family call. If they feel that they don't trust the vaccine shots or the statistics that have come out so far, especially for kids 5-12, then that's something that should only be discussed with their family doctor.
SCHOOL SAFETY
The safety of all our children and faculty are one of my major concerns. Coming from 20 years of law enforcement, this is very important to me. I will make sure that we are training and working closely with the Clay County Sheriff's Department and our own School Police force. It is imperative that we protect all of our children and if something does happen, then we must make sure we are acting swiftly but safely to end a threat before it gets deadly.
