Meet Charles

Charles Kirk was born in Jacksonville, Florida, grew up in the Baldwin area, and then moved back to Jacksonville, where he graduated from Samuel W. Wolfson High School.  He was offered a baseball scholarship and played two years at Florida Junior College (now Florida State College of Jacksonville), advancing to the Junior College World Series.  Kirk then was recruited to pitch for the NCAA Division I program at Jacksonville University, where he studied Secondary Education in Physical Education.

Kirk was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 31st round of the 1990 MLB June Amateur Draft, playing four years in the Cubs system in Geneva, NY, Huntington, WV, Peoria, IL, Winston-Salem, NC and Daytona, FL.

After 20 years of service, Kirk retired from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office as a Corrections Sergeant in June 2021.  He has lived in Clay County since 2001, where he was a substitute teacher for 10 years for different subject areas and coached several sports for 8 years.  He also is a member of the St. Luke’s Catholic Church St. Michael's Ministry that plans and provides for safety and security of all parishioners during services and special events.  

Kirk has been married 27 years to the former Donna Lamoureux, a graduate of Middleburg High School, Florida State University (B.A. Communications), Georgia Southern University (M.S. Sport Management) and current Sr. Associate Athletic Director for Compliance and Administration at the University of North Florida.  The couple are proud parents of their two daughters, Emily and April who are graduates from St. Johns Country Day School, where they were enrolled from Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade.  Emily graduated from Florida State University with a degree in Statistics and April graduated from the University of South Florida with a degree in Marketing, with a concentration in sales.  She recently earned a Graduate Certificate from USF in Management of Non-Governmental and Non-Profit Organizations.  

Kirk is an active member of the Clay County community, holding a current membership at the Eagle Harbor Golf Club and enjoys attending performances and sporting events of his nieces and nephews at local schools in the county.
